Breaking it down:
The Process of Therapy
The Counseling Journey
Counseling is much like the process of renovating a home. Imagine that you've decided to renovate your home. There may be a variety of reasons you chose to do this: maybe parts of your home are outdated and need to be replaced, maybe your home has suffered severe damage following a disaster, or maybe your home needs some changes to adjust to your new lifestyle. Through counseling, we will work together to explore questions such as,
"What's working with your current home, and what it no longer working?"
“How did you come to live in this house and do you want to stay on the same plot of land?”
“What do we need to pay attention to that may be problematic under the surface?"
"What kind of structural changes need to be made so the home is more fit for a quality living?"
“How much scaffolding does the house need to stay stable and inhabitable while we’re renovating?”
“What sorts of changes can we make to prevent damage in the future?”
Renovating a home is hard and requires effort, commitment, and investment. The process facilitates change that we hope will ultimately enhance the quality of your life and relationships.
While counseling can be a rewarding and freeing experience, the idea of sharing very meaningful or even painful parts of your life with someone you've newly met can be scary or awkward. We understand this and we deeply value your trust in us. If you are unsure about the counseling process or if counseling is right for you, let's talk and figure it out together.
Healing and Growth - One Step at a Time!
Step 01 — Request a Consultation
Contact Total Therapy Mental Health & Wellness to request a complimentary consultation.
Step 02 — Consultation Call
You will receive a consultation phone call within 48 hours of submitting a contact request. This phone call is complimentary and will be of no cost to you. During this call, a clinician will briefly speak with you about what concerns you would like to address in therapy and what you hope to achieve through the therapy process. At this time, fee, availability, and schedule will also be discussed. Please feel free to ask the clinician any questions you have regarding the counseling process. We are here for you.
Step 03 — Book your First Session
You and your clinician will coordinate and day and time for your initial session (in-person and teletherapy options may be discussed depending on your needs, preferences, and location).
Step 04 — Activate your Client Portal
Your clinician will send you an access email to your “client portal.” This portal houses all the consent documents, intake forms, and demographic data needed prior to your counseling session. All documents and forms can be completed online with your digital signature.
Step 05 — Enjoy your First Session
On the day of your first session, we ask that you arrive around 10-15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time to ensure there is an ample amount of time to find our office building and acquaint yourself with the practice. Virtual sessions links will be sent out the day of the session, prior to your scheduled session time. During your first session, you will meet your clinician and begin discussing and address your concerns!
