About Me

When I'm asked about my work, I often tell others that I am beyond fortunate; I have my dream job. My professional role is centered around meaningful relationships, growth, and transformation. I have always imagined a life dedicated to working with others and each day, I get to do just that.

As I continue to grow personally, I notice how deeply committed I am to helping and encouraging those around me to live a life they are happy and comfortable with. I have taken that passion and applied it to my profession. Through extensive knowledge and training in counseling, I truly believe that professional support can lead to a profound difference in the quality of our lives. As a counselor, I am dedicated to helping my clients explore and learn more about themselves to ultimately live a life that feels “right,” authentic, and comfortable. I understand that this is not an easy process. Sometimes, when we look inward, we discover parts of ourselves and our lives that are uncomfortable or even painful. I believe exploring and integrating all of our parts can lead to a real understanding of our true selves.

Often, clients come to therapy expecting to find nothing more than a resolution to their problem. Because I know the power of therapy, I want more for my clients. Through counseling, I hope for my clients to gain a deeper understanding of themselves, appreciation for the present moment, awareness of their strengths, feelings of control and confidence, a sense of independence, and finally, purpose. With this in mind, I strive to be the best counselor, change agent, support, and advocate for my clients. You deserve that.

Professionally speaking, I have a Bachelor of Science and Arts in Human Development and Family Science from the University of Texas (Hook ’em!), a Master or Arts in Counseling from Houston Baptist University (now Houston Christian University), and a Doctor of Philosophy in Counselor Education from Sam Houston State University. I am also the Department Chair for three programs at the University of St. Thomas: Drug and Alcohol Counseling, Human Services, and General Sciences, along with being an adjunct instructor for the Clinical Mental Health in Counseling graduate program.

Personally, I am a wife and mom to my wonderful husband and son, respectively. I am an avid crafter, who loves to try new, creative projects. I am a Houston sports fan (even when it’s hard to be), a bookworm, and a pop-culture enthusiast. My favorite season is the summer and I feel the most well when I am under the sun with a good book or my loved ones.

To my future clients: Though we do not know each other yet, I look forward to welcoming you to our work together, whenever you're ready. I know you come with a rich story that is weaved with life experiences, some of which are known to others and some which you hold near to yourself. You're here today because you've propelled through good days and been resilient through tough days. You have an assortment of strengths, some of which you may not even know yet. Please know that I know how strange, uncomfortable, or nerve-wracking this process may be for you. Allow me to meet you where you are and walk alongside you on your journey.

My Counseling Approach

Though I am trained in many modes of therapy, you can expect me to utilize an experiential, holistic approach. The more we learn about ourselves, the more deeply we understand our experiences: our thoughts, feelings, actions, reactions, and physiological responses. Therefore, our work will include tapping into yourself in the present moment, developing greater self-awareness, making sense of current experiences, and using creative ways to integrate and address unfinished business.

Additionally, I work hard to create a safe and comfortable environment for my clients, accept my clients fully and completely, remain present and encourage counseling work that is unique, engaging, and tailored to the in-the-moment discussion.

My counseling approach is not a one-size-fits-all method. I understand that what may work really well for one client may not be as effective for another. You can expect me to actively attend to our work and make corrective adjustments based on your needs and expectations.
